In a special promotion ceremony held at the Citadel, Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom was officially promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in the South Carolina State Guard.  Eckstrom, who previously served 28-years in the Navy, is Deputy Commander of the State Guard.

“It’s an honor to receive this promotion in the rich historical setting of the Citadel.  I’m proud of the inspiring tradition of the Citadel and the impressive military leaders it produces,” said Eckstrom. “I want to instill in State Guard members the same leadership traits that Citadel cadets develop and possess for a lifetime.”

Adjutant General Stan Speares and Citadel president Lt. General John Rosa presented Eckstrom with his star.  Also on hand for the ceremony was General Eckstrom’s brother Dan, a Navy JAG Captain.
